South Asia Earthquake Appeal Ramadhan is over but for the people of Kashmir and surrounding area's the hardships faced are not self-imposed but will be with them over the winter too. Al-Qur’an Majeed [2.270] “And whatever alms you give or (whatever) vow you vow, surely Allah knows it; and the unjust shall have no helpers.” There are 10's if not 100's of thousands of people in the mountainous regions of Azad Kashmir that have been affected critically by the earthquake that has killed something like 70'000 people in official reports so far (04/11/2005). Cities and villages have been decimated and we watch the news reports on the TV whilst we celebrate Eid and our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters both young and old. Millions more are in potential danger from the upcoming winter. Sahih Bukari Narrated Asma [RA]: Once I said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have no property except what has been given to me by Az-Zubair (i.e. her husband). May I give in charity?" The Prophet [pbuh] said, "Give in charity and do not withhold it; otherwise Allah will withhold it back from you." In England and other Western countries, we are in a position to give more than the people in Pakistan and India themselves financially. Masha'Allah a lot of money has been raised so far but a mistake has been made. Most of the donations received are for long term projects and rebuilding the region. This is not where money should be going right now nor is it where the people of Kashmir need it to go. Al-Qur'an Majeed [2.271] If you give alms openly, it is well, and if you hide it and give it to the poor, it is better for you; and this will do away with some of your evil deeds; and Allah is aware of what you do. Winter is looming ahead and within seven days heavy snowfalls are expected where the earthquake struck on October 8th 2005. People are in a region that is remote and normal relief efforts are not reaching these people. What are needed are individuals to go out with strength and the right resources to fill their trucks and lorries with TENTS and BLANKETS. Sahih Bukari Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all the day." The people of Kashmir need us now and if we are not responding in the generosity Ramadhan and Eid teaches us then surely many more Muslims will die... please have the heart and sense to see it is your duty to help out your brothers and sisters out in a time of great need. Surely they would do the same for us were it needed. Please give as much as you can even if all you can afford is just £5.00 or $5.00. Al-Qur'an Majeed [63.10] And spend out of what We have given you before death comes to one of you, so that he should say: My Lord! why didst Thou not respite me to a near term, so that I should have given alms and been of the doers of good deeds? More Appeals: Islamic-Relief - Muslim Hands - Islamic Aid - Muslim Aid - Red Crescent and Red Cross All the above sites are working around the clock, helping those most in need no matter what the emergency. Please give generously as charity is a pillar of faith and whoever denies charity denies his obligation. "By no means shall you attain piety until you spend of what you love," (3.92)
